Norwegian Wood   (This Bird Has Flown)

This is the first (and for a very long time has been the only) song by the Beatles that I liked. I didn’t know enough English at that time to understand its lyrics (which aren’t that obvious, by the way), but I didn’t care. It was just something special in the music, that was able to move my mood

A Tribute to The Beatles

I once had a girl, or should I say, she

   once had me.

She showed me her room, isn’t it

   good, norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me

   to sit anywhere,

So I looked around and I noticed

   there wasn’t a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking

   her wine.

We talked till two, and then she said,

   “It’s time for bed.”

She told me she worked in the

   morning and started to laugh.

I told her I didn’t and crawled off to

   sleep in the bath.

And when I awoke I was alone, this

   bird had flown.

So I lit a fire, isn’t it good, norwegian

   wood?

towards some remote place that was mine only. And even now, after i’ve understood that it was meant to be something completely different, this song is still moving my dreams my way.
